UFS201 - 3rd VOCABULARY ENTRY


1. Stranded: Cut off or left behind.
v  Some spotted stranded motorists, who had survived miraculously far from towns.
2. Context: The set of facts or circumstances that surround a situation or event.
v  The back-and-forth of this establishes a context.
3. Interrupted: Discontinued temporarily.
v  During a July 2006 taping of the show, Leno's interview with Colin Farrell was interrupted when an audience member stormed on stage.
4. Auxiliary:  Someone who acts as assistant.
v  The Handley Page wing contains a long narrow auxiliary wing set in its forward edge.
5. Required: Required by rule.
v  Both she and her mother are required to wear scarves over their hair.
6. Occur: Come to pass.
v  A comparable eclipse will not occur again until the year 2150.
7. Common:  Being or characteristic of or appropriate to everyday language.
v  Jack always speak their own language at home.
8. Refer:  Seek information from other source.
v  His campaign staffers even refer to their operation as McCain 2.
9. Main:  Most important element.
v  The past never seems to give up on the state of Maine.
10. References: The act of referring or consulting.
v  It is a reference, of course, to the white-bearded Ayatullah Khomeini, who is respectfully called Imam Khomeini.
