UFS 211 - TASK 9

LIE DETECTOR
A new form of lie detector that works by voice analysis and which can be used without a subject's knowledge has been introduced in Britain.  Dektor claims that the muscle tightening occurs very quickly, and can change from one word to the next, so that it is possible to pick out a word or phrase that caused stress. Three steps are suggested to overcome this difficulty. First, the subject is supposed to see a full list of the question in advance. Second, there are 'neutral' questions and one to which the subject is specifically asked to lie. Third, if an individual shows stress on a vital question, then additional question must be asked to ensure that this does not reflect n earlier theft or the subject's knowledge of someone else responsibe. In the US, the device is used for pre-employment interviews. The potential application of the PSE in Britain is extremely disquieting, especially as there seems no law to prevent its use. The mostserious problem is that its primary application will be in situation where people may not object- such as pre-employment interviews. But, it can also be used to probe a whole range of personal issues totally unrelated job- union and political affiliations, for example. Finally, the device is not foolproof but depends on the skill of the investigator, who receives only a one week course from Dektor.

UFS 211 - TASK 8

The dead body was one of the crew. He took him on the island and he took off the shoes and the flash light from him. Then he buried the dead man and wrote him an epitath. He also found a cave on the other side of the island. Each time when it was raining, he hid in the cave. He could catch a fish and a crab with a spear he made by himself. He always tried to go away from the island, but the wave of the ocean was too strong and always took him back to the island. Lastly, he collected as many woods as he could and made his own raft. As the wind direction was perfect, he started to sail through the ocean. He succeeds passed by the big wave and sailed miles away from the island. Once he was in the middle of the sea, rain poured heavily with the storm and thunder. But luckily that his raft was not broke down very bad. Not so long after that, while he was in such an unconscious condition in his raft, a big ship carried container passed by him. He begged for help from them and finally he could go back to his original place; his hometown.

If I as a main character in this movie, I do not want to live very long time on the island alone. I will try my best to get out from the island. I do not want to eat the raw food such as fish, and crabs. I will not pretend to climb the cave that nearby a sea, because I was afraid to be in high places. I will try to make the raft as soon as possible. I will not hurt myself and try my best to protect myself from the rain storm.

UFS 211 - TASK 6

PROBLEM IN WRITING
In writing I always have some mistake and I always do the same mistake. That mistake I always make is I combine past tense and present tense. That mistake make me get low mark in exam or test. I don't agree writing in English is difficult. Because, we must learn something even it difficult. It can make we have more information. I'm not good enough writing in English, but I try my best to write in English. Instead, I writing something I can learn something that I don't know before this. So, why not we try to write in English. Beside that, I always have some problem when I start writing. My problem is I can't make topic sentences because if I don't have any idea. I will stuck at there and I will write nonsense thing. My suggestion about my problem is I will make some like mind map for my writing. I will include at there topic, topic sentences, supporting details and concluding sentences. If I had this complete "mind map" it will make me easy do my writing. That my suggestion for myself.

UFS 211 - TASK 5

Water pollution is a major global problem which requires ongoing evaluation and revision of water resource policy at all levels (international down to individual aquifers and wells). It has been suggested that it is the leading worldwide cause of deaths and diseases, and that it accounts for the deaths of more than 14,000 people daily. An estimated 700 million Indians have no access to a proper toilet, and 1,000 Indian children die of diarrheal sickness every day. Some 90% of China's cities suffer from some degree of water pollution, and nearly 500 million people lack access to safe drinking water. In addition to the acute problems of water pollution in developing countries, developed countries continue to struggle with pollution problems as well. In the most recent national report on water quality in the United States, 45 percent of assessed stream miles, 47 percent of assessed lake acres, and 32 percent of assessed bays and estuarine square miles were classified as polluted. Water is typically referred to as polluted when it is impaired by anthropogenic contaminants and either does not support a human use, such as drinking water, and/or undergoes a marked shift in its ability to support its constituent biotic communities, such as fish. Natural phenomena such as volcanoes, algae blooms, storms, and earthquakes also cause major changes in water quality and the ecological status of water.
